Seventy million years ago the surface of the soil was much higher. The mountains at that time had developed quite different from that currently, and there was a series of parallel chains, punctuated by deep valleys.
The rocks of the mountains that surround Lake Iseo are formed in the secondary era, between 230 and 70 million years ago. Later these rocks have moved where they are today, but they continued to writhe in a thousand ways, forming the strangest and most complicated folds.
